“They didn’t think it was important to know God. So God let them continue to have evil thoughts. They did things they shouldn’t do. They are full of every kind of sin, evil and ungodliness. They want more than they need. They commit murder. They want what belongs to other people. They fight and cheat. They hate others. They say mean things about other people. They tell lies about them. They hate God. They are rude and proud. They brag. They think of new ways to do evil. They don’t obey their parents. They do not understand. They can’t be trusted. They are not loving and kind.”
Romans 28-31 NIRV
Sound familiar to you? Can you see the senseless murder? The retaliatory hate? Righteous anger that turned sinful because of angry words and a hardened heart? Do you see the dating scene? Your marriage? Your neighbor? Your boss? Your child? Your parent? Maybe, if you look hard enough, you even see yourself.
Even in sin God has a reckless love for you and the person you call enemy. He wants to bless us all. But He will never, ever force Himself on you. Like a parent with perfect boundaries, He will love you while you slander Him and blame Him. He will love you forever. He will also honor your choice and let you and everyone in your realm of influence pay the consequences for your choices. Examine your heart and accept the truth.
He’s patiently waiting.
P.S. Accountability feels like an attack when you’re not ready to acknowledge and take responsibility for your behavior. It is not an attack. It is a loving friend saying, “I know you and you’re better than this.”
